Peers for Belpre Preschool

Located at Stone Early Childhood/Administration Building

Ohio Valley ESC operates preschools for students ages 3 to5 identified (using state criteria) with educational needs. The classes may have up to 8 children with educational needs and 8 children who do not have educational needs.    The classes are 2 ½ hours sessions 4 days a week (Tuesday through Friday).  A child may attend all four days, two or three days.  The rates are $40.00 a month for two days a week, $60.00 a month for three days a week, and $75.00 a month for four days a week.  This is a flat rate and is not adjustable for absences, holidays or calamity days.

Creative Curriculum and Ohio Department of Early Learning Indicators are used to guide the preschool program.  It is a comprehensive program based on best practices in early childhood education and provides developmentally appropriate processes, adult interaction and learning experiences.  The curriculum used is responsive to individual development and interests of the individual child.

Our OVESC Washington County Preschools strive to:

  1. Help each child recognize that he/she is a unique individual.
  2. Provide opportunities for interaction with peers to develop social relationships.
  3. Provide developmentally appropriate activities based on special interests of the child.
  4.  Provide a variety of materials and activities with time to explore inviting play.
  5.  Enhance and facilitate development in all learning domains: cognitive, language, affective and physical.
  6. Assist children in learning to share, to cooperate and to socialize.

Play is said to be the work of children. Children develop physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually through the natural exploration of their world during play.  Play with your child. Give your child experiences that can form a lifelong love of learning.

Self-directed play encourages a child’s choice-making, exploration, social development, language development and cognitive skills as well as gross and fine motor skills in both quiet and active centers.  These self-selected activities may include a housekeeping area, block area, sand or water table, puzzles, books, computer area, music and art projects.

If you would like to apply for your child to attend preschool, please call Lila at 374-5873. She will schedule an appointment for your child for the screening on May 29th or 30th at our Marietta office.

Mr. Tony Dunn, Superintendent of Belpre City Schools:

It is with great anticipation that I welcome you and your family to the 2011-2012 school year.  I am honored to be the Superintendent of the Belpre City Schools and a member of such a fine community, and am working hard to ensure that our every student receives a world-class educational experience.  It is our goal that every Belpre graduate be college and career ready and be able to compete for any job they desire.  As the new Superintendent, I am dedicated to that end, and will do everything in my power to make that happen.

Throughout the school year, we will be working to improve our instructional skills to offer the best possible classroom experiences for our students.  Our involvement in the Ohio Appalachian Collaborative, a network of schools throughout Appalachian Ohio, will enhance our interactions with other educators and help us better prepare our 21st century learners to compete in a global job market.  Our involvement in the Race to the Top initiative has widened that network of support and brought much-needed funding to our district.  This and other grant opportunities will help us be fiscally responsible while increasing our knowledge base and instructional skills.

We are dedicated to creating a safe and focused school environment for all of our students.  We will work closely with the Belpre Police and Belpre City Council to ensure that our campuses are safe, orderly, well-maintained, and drug-free.  We believe that a strong school system is the backbone of a strong community, and we will strive to create an excellent place for students to learn and the community to gather.  Our students and our community deserve nothing but the best.

Our school system is dedicated to providing a strong educational program that engages students and welcomes community members.  We will need your help, and we appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.  We will work hard this year to improve our communication with our families and other community members with the hope that we can form a collaborative relationship that enhances the opportunities for our students.  We expect that this school year will be the best ever for our students and their families!
