Ohio Valley ESC operates preschools for students ages 3 to5 identified (using state criteria) with educational needs. The classes may have up to 8 children with educational needs and 8 children who do not have educational needs. The classes are 2 ½ hours sessions 4 days a week (Tuesday through Friday). A child may attend all four days, two or three days. The rates are $40.00 a month for two days a week, $60.00 a month for three days a week, and $75.00 a month for four days a week. This is a flat rate and is not adjustable for absences, holidays or calamity days.
Creative Curriculum and Ohio Department of Early Learning Indicators are used to guide the preschool program. It is a comprehensive program based on best practices in early childhood education and provides developmentally appropriate processes, adult interaction and learning experiences. The curriculum used is responsive to individual development and interests of the individual child.
Our OVESC Washington County Preschools strive to:
- Help each child recognize that he/she is a unique individual.
- Provide opportunities for interaction with peers to develop social relationships.
- Provide developmentally appropriate activities based on special interests of the child.
- Provide a variety of materials and activities with time to explore inviting play.
- Enhance and facilitate development in all learning domains: cognitive, language, affective and physical.
- Assist children in learning to share, to cooperate and to socialize.
Play is said to be the work of children. Children develop physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually through the natural exploration of their world during play. Play with your child. Give your child experiences that can form a lifelong love of learning.
Self-directed play encourages a child’s choice-making, exploration, social development, language development and cognitive skills as well as gross and fine motor skills in both quiet and active centers. These self-selected activities may include a housekeeping area, block area, sand or water table, puzzles, books, computer area, music and art projects.
