In the Head Start
centers, meals and snacks are furnished and services are provided for children
with disabilities. Just like “big” school, children have cubbies, lunchtime,
story time, learning circle, and recess.
Our Home-Based Head Start option brings a specially qualified Home Visitor to your home once a week, anywhere in Washington County. Head Start philosophy is that "Parents are the Best Teachers", and when parents are directly involved in teaching their children, the children do better for a longer period of time after they enter school. The Home Visitor provides ideas, support, and curriculum training, and with the parent will plan activities for visits. Over time you will become partners in helping your child to grow and learn. This uses the same curriculum as the centers, but on a one-to-one basis to develop the essential kindergarten skills. Social development has not been left out: all the Home Base children get together with their parents and teachers twice a month for activities, snacks, and fun.
Whether in our centers or in your own home, there are also field trips, Family Nights, Policy Council (a parent advisory group), special guests, and more. Head Start also collects information to track each child's progress and reviews this information with the family throughout the year.
