October 10, 2020 – Marietta/Belpre Health Department partnered with Belpre City Schools, Belpre Volunteer Fire Department, and Belpre Landing Nursing and Rehabilitation to provide a Drive-Through Flu Vaccination Clinic at Belpre Elementary School today, Saturday, October 10, 2020.  85 local residents- both children and adults- were vaccinated against the flu during this 4-hour clinic.

"We want to do all we can at Belpre City Schools to keep our kids and our community safe and healthy, so we are pleased with the turnout for this clinic,” reported Jeff Greenley, Belpre City Schools Superintendent. “Many people thanked us for hosting this clinic at Belpre Elementary School, which we were happy to do.”

“This was our first-ever drive-through flu vaccination clinic. It went very well, thanks in large part to the great community partners we got to work with,” noted Marietta/Belpre Health Commissioner Anne Goon.

Two paramedics from Belpre Volunteer Fire Departments and two nurses from Belpre Landing Nursing and Rehabilitation joined with a school nurse from Marietta City Schools, Marietta/Belpre’s Director of Nursing, Superintendent Greenley and his daughter, and four other Health Department staff to provide the vaccination clinic. Officers from Belpre Police Department were also present to assist with traffic control as necessary.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions. Getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever during the upcoming flu season to protect yourself and the people around you from flu, and to help reduce the strain on healthcare systems responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Vaccination is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenza, such as adults 65 years and older and adults with chronic health conditions like diabetes, asthma, heart disease, stroke, and chronic kidney disease.
