Serving others builds the foundation of strong communities. Last Friday, BHS held a "Beautify Belpre Day" and students got out to give back. Our students thrived with the task of sprucing up the Senior Center, Civitan Park, and the Elementary and High Schools. We're excited to expand this and do even more in the years to come!

Congratulations to the Legal Eagles for being one of nine schools competing at this year's State Moot Court Competition. Students traveled to the Supreme Court of Ohio where they made arguments to real judges. They also wrote a 20 page brief and were awarded Second Place in Ohio for the best written brief for the Petitioner's argument. Congratulations to these students for their hard work and for representing Belpre so well!

Anyone who has the pleasure to interact with Belpre High School's amazing music director, Mr. William Van Pelt, knows they are in the presence of true excellence. He is among the very best and is quite deserving of this award! Congratulations to our Jan Dils Golden Apple Award recipient, Mr. Van Pelt.

Opportunities for BHS students are endless! We have partnered with the local Plumbers and Pipefitters union to provide a 2 year pre-apprenticeship opportunity for juniors and seniors as part of their Friday Option. Students in the program will get hours of real life experience in multiple careers and trades. A big thank you to Jeff Smith and Local 168, this is a huge win for the students of Belpre High School!

Tonight's baseball and softball games vs Southern are being postponed until tomorrow 4/30 at 5pm at Civitan Park. We are working on makeup dates for the games we are replacing tomorrow. We'll update the schedule as soon as we have them.

On April 17, the BHS Student Council coordinated a very special workshop for nearly a hundred Belpre 6th - 12th grade students. The workshop was called 'Mind Your Mind' and focused on helping students find ways to handle the mental health stress that they face every day. Focusing on Self Awareness, Resilience, and Radical Acceptance, the workshop challenged students on many levels, and was led by Connie Miley, Executive Director of Ohio Association of Student Leaders. Funding came from a grant through The Joe Burrow Foundation that was written by senior Haley Hatcher. Students were overwhelming positive in their post-workshop feedback, stating that workshops like this needed to happen more often and that it needed to be offered to more students.

Both the varsity baseball and softball teams were in action last night at Civitan Park again TVC foe Trimble. The boys made quick work of the Tomcats with a 4-0 victory behind a stellar outing from Senior Chris Copen. Chris went all 7 innings en route to earning the 3 hit shutout. Copen, struck out what we believe to be a Belpre record 19 batters in an absolutely dominant performance!(If anyone has any documentation of someone with more strikeouts, please let us know). At the plate we were led by Copen, Carson Moore, Ryan Owens, and Haiden Tabler all recording a pair of hits. Awesome game gentlemen!
The ladies didn't fair quite as well across the way dropping an 8-5 decision to the lady Tomcats. Makayla Carmichael went the full 7 innings, striking out 9 in the tough luck loss. Carmichael also led the Lady Eagles with a pair of hits, while Addy Stewart and Rylee Wolfe both drove in 2 runs. Great effort ladies! There's a lot of season left!
