All teachers in the district began the new school year participating in three days of professional development. The teachers are in year two of the BCS Professional Development Eagle Flight Plan. Teachers were split into three groups and both campuses were mixed in hopes that both the elementary and high school will collaborate, communicate, and work together to create the best K-12 learning opportunities for students. We thank our teachers for their participation, leadership, and desire to take risks!

The School Psychology Department of Belpre City Schools, under the direction of Jason Haught, M.A. Ed.S, is pleased to announce our reorganization under the banner of “Student Services.”All of the many functions of our department are being consolidated into one easy-to-remember brand! We are also delighted to introduce our incoming School Social Worker, Samantha Knuchel. Samantha’s first day with us was August 11, 2021, when she participated in our new staff orientation, professional development days, and was introduced to all of our current staff. Samantha graduated from Monroe Central High School in 2017. She then furthered her education at West Liberty University, where she graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. During her senior year of college, Samantha interned at Harmony House in Wheeling, West Virginia where she acted as a child advocate during and after forensic interviews. She has also shadowed caseworkers at both Monroe County Job and Family Services in Woodsfield, Ohio and Belmont County Job and Family Services in Martins Ferry, Ohio. Right after graduation, Samantha worked as a Prevention Specialist for Switzerland of Ohio Local School District. She provided programs such as Signs of Suicide, Red Flags for Depression and Too Good for Drugs to all grade levels. Samantha is excited to begin serving our students as a licensed social worker in the Student Services Department! Samantha will be working closely with Michael Seebaugh, the School Psychologist Assistant, as she gets established with our kids. Samantha will be working within our schools to provide services to students to enhance their emotional well-being, which in turn will improve their academic performance. She will be a resource for students who need help with coping skills and solving everyday life/school problems. Samantha will also provide assistance with trauma and crisis intervention as needed. Her offices will be located in Room 109 in the Administration Building and Room 140 in the high school building. As the school year gets underway, Samantha will be making available small group sessions in the former Eagle Academy, where all kinds of different topics will be addressed as students’ concerns emerge. We invite you to introduce yourself to Samantha when you see her, and we look forward to working with her! We can’t wait to see the difference she will make in the lives of our students!
